Field Day T-Shirts - Thank you for entering your student's t-shirts size on the student information page! No further action is required. Alden PTA orders the t-shirts and distributes them to teachers to give out before Field Day free of charge.

Alden PTA - April Newsletter

Last month was busy! We started March with students learning about the writing process from three amazing authors (3rd - Brian Lies, 4th - Charles Smith Jr and 5th - Rob Buyea). Thank you Lara Kingston and Alyssa Brymer for organizing these inspiring author visits! Check out THIS LIST for some great book recommendations Rob Buyea gave during his presentation! Author visits are 100% funded by the Dragon Dash for all Alden School students. 

The Scholastic Book Fair had record sales in March! Thank you for supporting Alden PTA by purchasing books and donating to your teacher's eWallets. All students will receive the Scholastic Storyworks Magazine next year with the Scholastic Dollar rewards from this year's fairs. This year, over 200 Battle of the Books participants received a $10 voucher to buy their book of choice at the Book Fair and the kids loved it! Thank you to our Book Fair Team, Amanda Randall, Meredith Jefski and Caroline Panagiotopoulos, for keeping the shelves stocked and the shoppers happy. Also, a big thanks to all the volunteers who helped come to make the book fair a success. 

The Science Fair judges appreciated all the yummy treats donated to the Judges' Breakfast on March 25. Thank you to all who donated and helped volunteering their time for the concession stand. Congratulations to all the participants and winners! 

The HARLEM WIZARDS GAME on March 31s was so fun! WOW! What a night! This event raised $27,156 for the Duxbury Elementary Playgrounds Project! We greatly appreciate the staff who played or volunteered to help make it a success! Marilyn Quilty, a photographer for the Duxbury Clipper, attended and took some great pictures. Check out pictures from the event HERE. A huge thank you to the Harlem Wizards Planning Committee, Meredith Jefski, Caroline Panagiotopoulos and Carey Dietz, for all their help planning this event with me over the past few months as well as Diane Kildea and Joe Hussar for helping at the event. Make sure to send in those pictures from the game to memorybook@aldenpta.org!

Attend Final Battles 
The Final Battles are here! Battle of the Books Final Battles will be held on April 10th (5th grade), April 11th (4th grade) and April 12th (3rd grade) after school in the Presentation Hall at DMS/DHS. Team leaders, please check out this LINK for information about the Final Battle and plan to arrive at the Presentation Hall at 1:30. Parents, we need volunteers! Please check the SIGN UP HERE to help during the Final Battle. Families are invited to arrive at the Presentation Hall at 2:00 to watch the Final Battle. Please note, you will need to enter the school via the High School entrance and DMS/DHS school will be in session until 2:48 PM. Unfortunately, the PAC is not available due to high school concerts that week.

Volunteer for STEM Kit Assembly 
KIT ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Check back for rescheduled date. Alden PTA received a $1,000 grant from the National PTA to purchase the materials to make a STEM kit for each student to do a STEM activity at home. We will be sending home a "Tiny Catapult" and need help assembling the kits for students to bring home (count out popsicle sticks, rubber bands, etc). Eligible volunteers, please CLICK HERE to sign up if you can help the morning of Wednesday, April 26th. 

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR MEMORY BOOK 
Please send in pictures from SCHOOL (classroom parties, field trips, school sponsored events, PTA events, school music concert, the Wizards game, etc.). We have had lots of great events and classroom activities this year to include in the book. No pictures from home or outside sports will be included in this year's Alden School Memory Book. Send pictures to memorybook@aldenpta.org by FRIDAY, April 7th. 
 

Help with Outdoor Classroom Cleanup

Please help get the Alden School Outdoor Classroom ready for spring on Saturday, May 6th at 10:00 AM. The Outdoor Classroom (located on the trail behind Alden School) is a place for children to connect to the natural world and learn from what nature has to teach us. All families are invited to help Mrs. Hanlon and Mrs. Miele with this effort! The space needs some trimming, clipping, planting and raking to get ready for students to visit this spring. CLICK HERE to volunteer!

Tickets sales are now closed. Over 600 tickets were sold to Chandler and Alden families to cheer on the Sox for Duxbury Day! 5th Grade Talent Show
There's interest from 5th grade students to have a 5th grade Talent Show. Please contact Sherri at contact@aldenpta.org if you'd be interested in helping plan this event. We need parent volunteers to make this happen! You don't have to have a 5th grader to volunteer. All volunteers are welcome! 

Passport Club
The LAST after school Passport Club meeting is MAY 23rd. Registered Passport Club participants should submit their map checks HERE before this meeting. 

New Playground Project
Alden School and Chandler School are planning new playgrounds as part of a multi-year Duxbury Elementary Schools Playgrounds Project. Check out the Playground Project website at www.duxburyplaygrounds.com!

Volunteering for PTA or in the Classroom

Please submit this form if you might be interested in volunteering in the classroom or on an upcoming field trip 2022-2023 Volunteer Registration Form. This allows the office to check if you have a current CORI on file and adds you to our mailing list of eligible volunteers. It does not mean you are required to volunteer. The Volunteer Registration Form must be submitted each school year to AND you must have a current CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) on file with Duxbury Public Schools (submitted every 3 years) to volunteer.
